Splash247: Maersk sells training arm to OpenGate
Published by Splash247
Maersk has agreed to sell Maersk Training and its subsidiary Maersk H2S Safety Services to US private equity firm OpenGate Capital.
Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, with completion expected later this year.
Maersk Training will continue to operate as part of the Danish shipping and logistics group until closing, with no immediate changes planned for employees, customers or partners.
The business has been operating for more than four decades, providing training, competency development and safety services across the maritime, offshore energy, renewables and logistics sectors. Maersk H2S specialises in gas detection and safety services for offshore and onshore energy operations.
Maersk said the disposal forms part of the group’s focus on its strategic brands, leaving the training business under an owner concentrating on training, safety and workforce competency services.
New York- and Paris-based OpenGate specialises in acquiring and operating corporate carve-outs. The private equity firm has completed more than 40 platform acquisitions across Europe and North America since its establishment in 2005.
The training deal continues a longer run of Maersk divestments outside the group’s core logistics operations. Maersk sold Maersk Supply Service to AP Moller Holding for an enterprise value of $685m in 2023, completing a separation of energy-related businesses that began in 2016. That process also saw Maersk Tankers, Maersk Oil and Maersk Drilling leave the group between 2017 and 2019.
