Splash247: ICTSI posts 16% volume growth on expanding terminal network

International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI) has posted a 16% rise in container volumes in the first half of 2026, handling 8.12m teu across its global portfolio as new terminals in South Africa and Indonesia came on stream.

The Philippines-headquartered operator said the growth was driven mainly by Durban Gateway Terminal, which took over operations at Pier 2 of the Port of Durban in January, and Batu Ampar Container Terminal in Batam, where it started work in September 2025.

Excluding those additions and the disposal of Yantai International Container Terminal in China, underlying throughput increased by just 1%, underlining how much of the lift came from recent acquisitions.

Financials strengthened alongside volumes. Port revenues rose 27% to $1.92bn, while EBITDA climbed 24% to $1.23bn. Recurring net income was up 25% at $604.7m.

ICTSI spent $320m on capital projects during the first half and has maintained its full-year investment budget at $740m. The programme includes an expansion at Contecon Manzanillo in Mexico and ongoing work at terminals in Manila, Mindanao, southern Luzon, Brazil, and DR Congo.

Four further expansion projects are planned at Puerto Cortés in Honduras, Victoria International Container Terminal in Melbourne, Contecon Guayaquil in Ecuador, and the next development phase at Manzanillo.

Regional performance was mixed. ICTSI said volumes increased across Asia and the Americas, but the Europe, Middle East, and Africa portfolio was hit by lower activity linked to geopolitical disruption in the Middle East. Basra Gateway Terminal in Iraq was among the operations recording weaker volumes.
