Splash247: Evergreen plugs into WaveBL network

Evergreen Marine has connected the carrier’s electronic bill of lading service to WaveBL, widening access to digital trade documents as the liner industry works towards ending paper bills by 2030.

WaveBL said the integration has been completed and is already available. Customers can now issue, transfer and manage Evergreen electronic bills of lading through the WaveBL application.

The connection gives Evergreen access to shippers, freight forwarders, consignees and other trade participants already using the WaveBL network. The platform claims more than 1m eBL issuances across over 100 countries.

Evergreen launched the iBL service through the ShipmentLink customer portal in 2018, initially using technology supplied by Bolero. The WaveBL connection adds another distribution channel rather than replacing Evergreen’s existing system.

The integration complies with Digital Container Shipping Association standards and is designed to support transfers between different electronic documentation platforms.

WaveBL was among five eBL providers that adopted the second version of DCSA’s interoperability framework in June, alongside CargoX, edoxOnline, TradeGo and eTEU. All five secured approval from the International Group of P&I Clubs.

The framework allows electronic bills to move between platforms without requiring every shipper, bank, carrier and consignee involved in a transaction to use the same system.

Evergreen is one of nine DCSA carrier members that have committed to issuing 100% of bills of lading electronically by 2030.
