Splash247: Baltic Hub secures 30-year lease for Gdańsk rail expansion

Baltic Hub has secured a 30-year lease covering 27 hectares next to its T2 deepwater terminal at the Port of Gdańsk, clearing the way for a major expansion of rail and container-handling capacity.

The site will be developed into a new intermodal rail and container area, including a siding capable of handling 750 m-long trains, additional storage yards and new cargo-handling equipment.

Work will be completed in phases, with the new facility becoming Baltic Hub’s second rail terminal. Its location beside T2 already has rail access, allowing the operator to expand landside capacity without developing a separate off-dock site.

The agreement was awarded following a competitive tender by the Port of Gdańsk Authority.

Baltic Hub said the project would allow a greater share of containers to move by rail, reducing reliance on trucks and strengthening connections with markets including the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine.

The terminal handled 2.7m teu in 2025 and has become a key gateway for Polish imports, exports and transhipment cargo serving Central and Eastern Europe.

Baltic Hub is owned by PSA International, the Polish Development Fund and IFM Global Infrastructure Fund.
